Julio Carballido-Gamio, PhD

Dr. Carballido-Gamio received his B.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering with a Highest GPA and an Excellence Academic Awards from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico, performing the research for his thesis at the University of Alberta in Canada. He then received his Ph.D. in Bioengineering from the University of California, Berkeley and the University of California, San Francisco as Fulbright and UC MEXUS-CONACYT scholar. He did a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco where he received a Postdoctoral Recognition Award. Dr. Carballido-Gamio has published over 50 peer-reviewed articles, as well as scientific reviews and book chapters. He currently serves as reviewer for numerous international scientific publications, and has given invited talks at different international conferences. Dr. Carballido-Gamio has received scientific awards, including the Young Investigator Award from the American Society for Bone and Mineral Research, and an Outstanding Teaching Award from the International Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine. He currently holds a Scientist position in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California, San Francisco, and his research interests include medical imaging, the musculoskeletal system, and advanced image processing and analysis algorithms.
