Erasmus Medical Centre Rotterdam, The Netherlands

Edwin H.G. Oei, MD, PhD, is Associate Professor of Musculoskeletal Imaging and Section Chief of Musculoskeletal Radiology in the Department of Radiology & Nuclear Medicine of Erasmus MC, University Medical Center, Rotterdam, the Netherlands. He received his MD degree in 2004 and his PhD on MRI for traumatic knee injury in 2009, both from Erasmus University Rotterdam. He also holds an MSc in Clinical Epidemiology from the Netherlands Institute for Health Sciences. Following his residency in radiology and fellowship training in musculoskeletal radiology in Erasmus MC, he joined the faculty as a musculoskeletal radiologist in 2009.

As the principal investigator of Advanced Musculoskeletal Imaging Research Erasmus MC (ADMIRE), Dr. Oei leads an active research line on advanced MRI for common musculoskeletal disorders, particularly osteoarthritis and sports injuries. His research focuses on multi-parametric MRI of diseased joints with advanced quantitative methods to assess tissues such as cartilage, bone, meniscus, and tendons, as well as pathological joint processes such as inflammation and perfusion changes as potential pathways of disease. His work is directed at technical development, validation and implementation of novel MR techniques in large clinical and population-based studies. In 2013, Dr. Oei spent one year at the Department of Radiology of Stanford University asa Visiting Assistant Professor. He has received research support from various sources, including the Radiological Society of North America, National Basketball Association, Netherlands Organization for Scientific Research, DutchArthritis Foundation, and GE Healthcare. He is also leading the Academic Center of Excellence for Molecular and Cellular Imaging at Erasmus MC.

Dr. Oei is an active member various societies including ESMRMB (Executive Board member and Chair of Local Organizing Committee of the ESMRMB Annual Meeting 2019 in Rotterdam), ISMRM (Annual Meeting Program Committee member, Ad Hoc Committee on Standards in Quantitative MR member), RSNA (Subcommittee for MSK Biomarkers of the Quantitative Imaging Biomarkers Alliance, and ESSR (Arthritis and Osteoporosis Subcommittees). He has been an acclaimed lecturer on musculoskeletal imaging in a variety of international teaching programs and meetings.
