Since our survey paper on the top five medical innovations in China mainland since Xinhai revolution was published (1), I was alerted that we omitted an important paper concerning the development of arsenic trioxide (As2O3) as an effective treatment for acute promyelocytic leukemia treatment. This paper was authored by the group authors at the pediatrics department of Chaoyang People’s Hospital, Liaoning province, China; and entitled Experience of Trioxide in combination with chemotherapy for the treatment of leukemia. This paper was published in the No. 4 issue of the Chinese journal Liaoning Anti-cancer Bulletin in year 1972 (2). More details can be found in a few Chinese references and websites (3-5).

It is also great that the top innovation voted in AME survey 002, Artemisine (Qinghaosu) for malaria treatment (Tu Youyou and Project 523 team, 1972), was awarded the Nobel Prize for Physiology and Medicine this year.
